Public Transport
Auckland’s public transport network (buses, trains and ferries) is run by Auckland Transport (AT) and is a convenient, cost‑effective way to get around the city.
- Tickets & payment: fares are zone‑based. The cheapest option for multiple trips is an AT HOP card (discounted fares). Many services also accept contactless debit/credit cards and mobile wallets — remember to tap on and tap off where required. AT HOP cards can be bought and topped up at stations, kiosks and selected retailers.
- Planning journeys: use the AT Journey Planner or the AT Mobile app for planning your trip and live timetables,. Trains and many frequent buses run on weekdays from early morning until around midnight; frequencies reduce in evenings and on weekends.
- Accessibility & luggage: most trains and newer buses are accessible and have space for luggage, but services vary — if you have large bags, consider a shuttle or taxi.
- Safety & tips: keep belongings secure, check the last service times late at night, and allow a buffer for transfers.
Other Transport Options
